Heritage Benelux has its headquarters in the castle d’Aspremont-Lynden in Oud Rekem, Lanaken.
The castle d’Aspremont-Lynden was built in the Mosan renaissance in 1595 on the site where former castles once stood. The castle was home to the counts of the Reich Counts of Rekem, including Ferdinand Gobert d’Aspremont Lynden. In the French period (1795 to 1805) there was a military hospital; Between
1809 and 1891 there was a beggar’s asylum and from 1921 to 1980 a state psychiatric institution was established in the building. It is now a protected monument. The Ucoverpoort and other parts of the city walls have also been preserved.
